I was pleasantly surprised this week to get text from my friend John Ambrose of Michigan State University. He had recently read my article The Hidden Factors in College Admission and said it was “spot on”.
Oh hell yes!! I was psyched! It’s always good to know that your work is appreciated and that you get something right.
But it got better.
He’d shared it in his office and one of his colleagues (thanks Ashley!) created a graphic to capture the article. As they say a picture is worth a 1000 words!

I love this graphic not only because I’m visual and love a good graphic representation of an idea but also because someone else thought enough of what I’d written to take the time to do this.
While we’re here, and in rankings season no less, I think it’s a good time to point out that MSU has been my example of a good school for a long time. Not because they are highly rejective, because they aren’t, but because they admit broadly and educate everyone. One could say the let everyone in and get everyone out. That’s a good school.
I tweeted about this in 2021 and now is a good time to link to it.
